Amapá hosts the 4th ICLEI Amazon Meeting and consolidates its role in the pre-COP30
Event brings together authorities and experts to discuss climate action and sustainability in the Amazon.
Amapá hosted the 4th ICLEI Amazonia Meeting , a regional preparatory event for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) , to be held in Belém in 2025. The initiative, supported by the state government , brought together public officials, researchers, and international organizations to discuss sustainable development strategies and strengthen climate governance in the region.
During the meeting, key environmental issues were addressed, such as carbon neutrality, the green economy, biodiversity conservation, clean energy, and climate justice . Discussions took place in panels and roundtables that brought together representatives from city halls, states in the Legal Amazon, and institutions linked to the ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability ) network , which operates in over 125 countries.
Governor Clécio Luís emphasized that the event symbolizes Amapá’s commitment to building a sustainable development model:
“Amapá comes to this meeting as an example of balance between production and preservation. We are showing Brazil and the world that it is possible to develop while respecting the environment ,” he stated.
The 4th ICLEI Amazon Meeting was considered a preparatory milestone for COP30 , serving as a forum for regional managers and international representatives to establish Amazon priorities at the global conference. The goal is to consolidate a unified Amazonian agenda , with proposals that reinforce the region’s role in mitigating climate change.
In addition to technical discussions, the event featured presentations on environmental management projects, climate adaptation policies, and local circular economy experiences , demonstrating Amapá’s potential to lead green innovation initiatives.
The executive secretary of ICLEI South America highlighted that the meeting in Amapá represents a fundamental step in regional mobilization towards COP30 , strengthening cooperation between Amazonian states and promoting alignment between local governments and global climate policies .
For the Government of Amapá, holding the event reinforces the state’s vocation as a reference in sustainability and environmental conservation , in addition to opening new possibilities for international partnerships and investments in low-carbon projects.
With the success of the meeting, Amapá consolidates itself as a protagonist in the Amazon climate agenda , contributing directly to the construction of the proposals that will be taken to COP30, in Belém.
