City Hall and state government discuss projects to host COP-30 in Belém
Belém is preparing to host the world’s largest conference on climate change, the COP-30, in 2025. On Thursday, March 2, Belém’s mayor, Edmilson Rodrigues, and the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, met virtually with the Minister of the Civil House of the federal government, Mirian Belchior, and her team of secretaries to discuss structural projects for the city in order to host the conference.
The COP-30 is an event that brings together leaders from countries on all continents, global environmental activists, representatives from various social segments, and traditional and indigenous peoples, among others. The expectation is that the conference will stimulate the city’s hotel network, as well as the entire local economy, leaving a great legacy for the population of Belém.
The projects discussed at the meeting have made significant progress, according to Mayor Edmilson Rodrigues. In a new meeting with the Federal Government next week, which will involve various ministries, financing and the search for federal resources to implement these projects in Belém in partnership with the state government will be discussed in a more concrete way.
On February 15, Mayor Edmilson Rodrigues and his team met with urban planners and architects from Pará to discuss projects for Belém’s Historic Center, aiming at the COP-30. In addition, from February 9 to 11, a meeting on climate change was held, mainly attended by young people from the city.
The Belém City Hall is working vigorously so that the city can host the COP-30 with adequate infrastructure and leave an important legacy for its population. Therefore, the expectation is that Belém will become an even more beautiful city and better prepared to host major events, boosting tourism and the local economy.
