Get to know the work of SOS Fauna in the preservation and fight against the trafficking of wild animals
- SOS Fauna is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works to defend and conserve the Brazilian wild fauna.
SOS FAUNA carries out field studies and research of the entire operational system involving the trafficking of wild animals in Brazil, in addition to participating in joint actions with the authorities in operations to repress the trafficking of wild animals in domestic guards, “rolo” fairs ” , interception of cargo and dismantling of clandestine deposits.
Right after the apprehension, the most common thing is that the rescued animals are taken to a police station, together with the suspects of the practice of keeping and/or illegal trade in animals of the Brazilian wild fauna. SOS Fauna, when present in these situations, plays a very important role in this action.
Accommodation and transport must be carried out in such a way as to reduce the level of stress for the animals as much as possible, and special treatments and care – such as food, medication and improved hygiene conditions – must be appropriate for each species and each situation.
For this to happen, SOS FAUNA veterinarians and biologists are trained to provide immediate and professional care to animals, seeking to restore their vital conditions and preparing them for safe transport to their destination.
Handling without technical preparation, without knowledge and the lack of urgency in the service can cause mass deaths, which is why SOS FAUNA is often called by the police authorities to provide first aid and arrange for the referral of rescued specimens even in seizures in the which he had no direct participation. One of the main causes of post-seizure deaths is due to the lack of first aid in these situations, given the lack of knowledge about the problem.
SOS FAUNA conducts studies and implements areas for the release of wild birds victims of trafficking in the caatinga, cerrado and Atlantic forest biomes.
