Less than six months before the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), Belém, the capital of Pará state, has already recorded a 50% increase in scheduled flights for November 2025 compared to the same period in 2024.

This growth stems from a coordinated effort involving the Federal Government, the Special Secretariat for COP30 (SeCOP), the National Civil Aviation Secretariat (SAC), the Ministry of Ports and Airports, and the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac).

The organizers accelerated the release of slots—preliminary authorizations for takeoffs and landings—allowing airlines to plan and expand their flight offerings. Additionally, Belém’s Air Base has been cleared to receive official flights, including heads of state, and VIP areas and reception lounges have been expanded.

With more than 40,000 participants expected, air operations will adopt a “parking” strategy, using 27 regional airfields for extended aircraft parking and refueling, which will optimize traffic flow and prevent congestion at Belém International Airport.

A R$ 470 million investment package has also been announced to refurbish the airport terminal—marking the first phase of a broader set of infrastructure upgrades. While no new executive airports will be built, the existing air network will be strengthened and modernized.

Ports and Airports Minister Silvio Costa Filho emphasized that the investments go beyond airport logistics, generating jobs and income. Secretary Valter Correia highlighted the importance of joint initiatives to ensure safety and organization during the event.

COP30 is scheduled to take place in Belém from November 10 to 21, 2025, with a strong focus on climate change and global sustainability.
