As the countdown to COP30 continues, Belém is racing against time. The capital of Pará will host the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference, and the event is already reshaping the city through a broad range of infrastructure, mobility, and professional training initiatives.

More than 30 major infrastructure projects are underway. Among them, the Hangar and Parque da Cidade complexes, with over 75% of construction already completed, are set to become key hubs for gatherings, debates, and sustainable initiatives. These spaces symbolize a new era for the city — more integrated, greener, and future-oriented.

One of the flagship transportation projects is the new Avenida Liberdade, which will span 13 kilometers, connecting neighborhoods with bike lanes, solar lighting, and wildlife crossings. Public transportation is also being revamped: new electric buses are being added to the fleet, and the Metropolitan BRT system is nearing its final phase.

The city is also expanding its accommodation capacity to host more than 50,000 expected participants. Cruise ships, adapted schools, military facilities, and an expanded hotel network will form part of the logistical solution.

Belém’s historic center is undergoing significant revitalization efforts. The Ver-o-Peso complex, a cultural and architectural landmark, is being refurbished, with more than 80% of the work already completed.

On the social front, the “Capacita COP30” program has already trained over 16,000 people in tourism, events, and general services. The goal is to reach 100,000 trained individuals by the start of the conference, boosting employability and promoting social inclusion.

COP30 will be the first United Nations climate conference held in the Amazon region, placing Pará at the heart of global climate discussions. For the state government and the Belém City Hall, the event is not just about hosting — it is about fostering a lasting urban transformation.
