Belém to Host Climate Talks 2025 and Already Embraces the COP30 Atmosphere
Event promoted by the German Embassy with support from the Pará State Government reinforces the prominence of the capital of Pará in global climate discussions.
Belém has been chosen to host Climate Talks 2025, an important international forum on climate change. The initiative is promoted by the German Embassy in Brazil, with support from the Government of Pará, and will take place in March 2025, bringing together authorities, experts, and civil society representatives to discuss key issues of the environmental agenda.
The confirmation of the event highlights the increasingly central role of the capital of Pará in the global environmental scene. With the upcoming COP30, scheduled for November 2025 also in Belém, the city is already living in the rhythm of the UN Climate Conference — an intense preparation in infrastructure, institutional mobilization, and public participation.
The Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, emphasized the importance of the meeting as a preparatory step:
“This event will further strengthen the debates and coordination of concrete actions in defense of the environment, especially in the Amazon.” Helder Barbalho, Governor of Pará
Germany’s Ambassador, Martin Esper, also underscored Belém’s strategic role as a venue for discussions on sustainable development:
“The choice of Belém for the Climate Talks symbolizes our commitment to an integrated and inclusive approach in climate negotiations.” Martin Esper, Ambassador of Germany to Brazil
The Climate Talks 2025 program will be released in the coming months and will feature thematic panels, bilateral meetings, workshops, and the participation of Indigenous leaders, academics, and private sector representatives, reinforcing the plural and cross-cutting nature of the discussions.
With this momentum, Belém reaffirms its leadership as the environmental capital of the Amazon and a pivotal center of international climate diplomacy, establishing itself as a reference in building sustainable solutions and public policies to address the climate crisis.
