Governor Helder Barbalho Highlights COP 30 Legacy in the Amazon for Forest Valorization and Bioeconomy at the World Forum in Switzerland
During his participation in the World Forum in Switzerland, the Governor of Pará highlighted the positive legacy of COP 30 in the Amazon, emphasizing the valorization of the forest and the development of the bioeconomy as fundamental pillars for the sustainable future of the region. The event, which brought together leaders and experts from around the world, served as a platform for discussions on sustainability and economic development integrated with the environment.
The Governor emphasized the importance of COP 30, held in the Amazon, as a milestone in the fight against climate change and in promoting an economic model that respects and responsibly utilizes natural resources. He presented successful initiatives implemented in Pará and other parts of the Amazon, which demonstrate how the bioeconomy can generate income for local communities while preserving the environment.
“For the first time, we will have the most significant moment of environmental discussion taking place in the Amazon rainforest, the world’s largest tropical forest, and it is certainly an incredible opportunity that the United Nations offers to the planet, while also allowing Brazil to lead this moment and this agenda,” stated the Governor from Pará and president of the Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon (CAL).
Furthermore, the need for public policies and investments that support sustainable infrastructure and technological innovation in the region was discussed, elements considered essential for the transition to a green economy. The Governor called attention to international collaboration as key to advancing these goals, requesting greater support from global partners in protecting and developing the Amazon.
The Forum also provided an opportunity for Pará and other Amazon states to showcase their efforts in areas such as biodiversity conservation and deforestation reduction, reinforcing the commitment to the global climate agenda and sustainable economic development.
