Government of Pará launches version 2.1 of SeloVerde in partnership with Amazon and AWS
The platform aims to ensure traceability of the Pará livestock production chain, promoting transparency and sustainability.
On Thursday (05/04), the Government of Pará, in partnership with Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS), launched version 2.1 of SeloVerde-Pará. Initially financed by the Climate and Land Use Alliance (CLUA), the platform provides information on the traceability of the livestock production chain throughout the Pará territory, promoting transparency and sustainability. The launch took place at Martens Café, in Mangal das Garças.
Pará was the first Brazilian state to implement a public system with this information, back in 2021, as a result of cooperation between the Government of Pará and the Center for Territorial Intelligence (CIT) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG).
Paulo Cunha, General Manager of Amazon Web Services (AWS), praised the government’s initiative, highlighting the importance of using technology as an ally in protecting the Amazon and connecting with the world. Pará Governor and President of the Legal Amazon Consortium (CAL), Helder Barbalho, announced expectations of expanding traceability to other products linked to land use.
Amazon and AWS are also funding the integration of CAR 2.0 into the SeloVerde platform. CAR 2.0 is a new automated property registration system that speeds up the validation of environmental self-reporting information, facilitating the implementation of the Forest Code regularization program.
Mauro O’de Almeida, State Secretary for Environment, highlighted the importance of partnerships to achieve the objectives of reducing deforestation and transforming the Pará economy into a low-carbon economy. The tool can boost the economy, add value to the product, and in the future, be used for timber traceability when CAR 2.0 is completed.
The event featured the participation of Felipe Nunes, representative of CIT/UFMG, and James Mulligan, Amazon’s Carbon Neutralization Leader, who highlighted the potential of technology to increase production, preserve the forest, and provide greater efficiency through Artificial Intelligence.
SeloVerde is essential to reduce deforestation and mitigate climate change, contributing to the implementation of the Amazônia Agora State Plan, the largest environmental strategy for Pará. The plan aims to curb environmental crimes, promote environmental regularization, provide low-carbon social development, and create financing mechanisms for actions that reconcile environmental conservation, responsible economic development, and social justice.
