Hydro-Terminal of Belém Ensures Safe Access for Tourism on Combu Island
The Amazonian oasis surrounded by lush forest and rivers, Combu Island, which is part of the municipality of Belém, is one of the most sought after destinations for those who want to enjoy a tranquil outing and savor the local cuisine. With renowned restaurants, the island provides an immersive tourist experience, with river bathing, views of the city, and the green of the living nature.
To visit the paradisiacal island, you must use the waterway. Departing from Belém, the crossing takes an average of 15 minutes. The main means of access is the Ruy Barata Hydro Terminal, located in Princess Isabel Square in the Condor neighborhood. The hydro terminal has a 300 square meter structure and is equipped with a metal structure roof, restrooms, waiting room, snack bar, locker room, and administration room, as well as a tourist information point managed by the Belém City Hall through the newly created Municipal Tourism Secretariat.
For musician Gabriel Xavier, this structure ensures safe access to Combu Island, which he considers one of the most attractive tourist spots in Belém. “The island has incredible restaurants and natural landscapes and you can enjoy the crossing with a view of the city center. I live there as if it were my second home,” he says.
The Municipal Tourism Secretary, André Cunha, highlights the importance of the commerce and service sectors for Belém, responsible for 60% of the city’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). “Obviously, with 39 islands, tourism in Belém has potential for development, especially through the expansion of commerce and services, as already happening on Combu Island, where a commercial dynamic has developed with a focus on cuisine that is highly sought after not only by tourists but by the population as an accessible leisure option for the entire family. I believe that the extensive terminal infrastructure and the work done by the secretariat team ensure better service to tourists who come here,” he emphasized.
