Governor of Pará is elected president of the Legal Amazon Consortium

The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB), has just been elected president of the Legal Amazon Consortium, formed by the nine states that make up the region. Voting was held this Monday (19). Helder was unanimously elected.

The governor of Pará is one of the heads of the State Executive Branch most determined to seek international funding to strengthen the bioeconomy as a tool for preserving the Amazon and generating jobs and sustainable development. 

Helder Barbalho will head the collegiate during the year 2023 and will replace the governor of Amapá, Waldez Góes (PDT), who was in office. “I feel very honored and happy to have been unanimously elected by the Amazonian states as president of the Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon. I thank all the Governors”, said the governor of Pará.

Legal Amazon – The Interstate Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Legal Amazon is formed by the nine Amazon states: Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Maranhão, Pará, Rondônia, Roraima and Tocantins. The nine states occupy 59% of the Brazilian territory with a population of over 29.3 million people. 

CAL has the mission of accelerating the sustainable development of the Legal Amazon in an integrated and cooperative way, considering regional opportunities and challenges and its objective is to be a global reference in articulation, strategy and governance to transform the Legal Amazon into a competitive, integrated region and sustainable by 2030.
