Flora inspection course encourages municipal action against deforestation
Training municipal environmental inspectors to identify the origins of raw materials and illicit activities related to the forest is the objective of the “Basic Flora Inspection Course”, promoted by the Environmental Inspection Board (Difisc) of the State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semas ). Started last Monday (12) and ended this Friday (16), the course had a workload of 40 hours, being based in Altamira, southwest of Pará, where representatives of eight other municipalities were present for the training.
The course was offered to employees of the Municipal Environmental Secretariats of the host municipality and six other municipalities located in the same region, southwest: Anapu, Brasil Novo, Medicilândia, Pacajá, Senador José Porfírio and Vitória do Xingu. Two municipalities in the Lower Amazon also participated in the training: Porto de Moz and Belterra.
In total there were 25 trained municipal technicians who will act in inspection actions within their respective municipalities, in partnership with the State, contributing to environmental inspection in Pará.
“We had an extensive week with theoretical work addressing environmental legislation, state legislation, State Environmental Policy, the new Law 9,575, which deals with the performance of the inspection agent and the conciliation Law, which was implemented in the state. We also act on the inspection of environmental crimes that have been taking place in the southwest region of the State of Pará”, explains Odilene Miranda, Difisc’s environmental technician.
The training in Altamira closes the cycle of the inspection course in 2022, which resulted in 108 municipal agents being trained in more than 32 municipalities: Abaetetuba, Acará, Bujarú, Breu Branco, Bom Jesus do Tocantins, Concórdia do Pará, Thailand, Tomé Açu and Ulianópolis, located in the northeast region of Pará; Afuá, Anajás, Bagre, Breves, Cachoeira do Arari, Curralinho, Ponta de Pedras, Portel, Salvaterra, Santa Cruz do Arari and Soure, located in the Marajó region; and Altamira, Anapu, Belterra, Brasil Novo, Medicilândia, Pacajá, Porto de Moz, Senador José Porfírio and Vitória do Xingu, in southwest Pará.
Partnership – The Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) collaborated with the inspection course, making the agency’s patio available for carrying out the practical class on scaling logs and sawn wood, assisted by an Ibama technician. This partnership between Semas and Ibama in the inspection course happened for the first time.
